Overview
Skin care for children and teens
Children's skin is not just a smaller version of adult skin. Conditions show up differently, treatments have to be chosen and dosed for a child's age, and the visit itself has to feel safe. Dr. Riemenschneider cares for infants, children and teens, and takes time to explain things to both parent and child.
Most childhood skin problems are common and very treatable: eczema, warts, molluscum, acne, birthmarks and rashes. Getting the right diagnosis early spares families months of trial and error with over-the-counter products. For conditions such as eczema and acne, it can also prevent problems later.

Treatment
How we care for young patients
Good pediatric skin care has to work for the whole family. Dr. Riemenschneider chooses treatments that are safe for your child's age and realistic to keep up with at home.
Age-appropriate treatment. The mildest option that will work, at the right strength for your child's age and the area being treated.
Comfort first. Painless and low-discomfort options wherever possible, and numbing cream when a procedure is needed.
Plans families can follow. Simple written routines that fit around school, sports and bedtime.
Teens treated as partners. Older children and teens are included in the conversation, which helps them stick with treatment.

We see patients of all ages, from infants through teens and adults.
-
Pediatricians handle many skin problems well. A dermatologist is the next step when a condition is not improving, keeps coming back, is severe or has not been clearly diagnosed.
-
Yes, when chosen and used correctly. We select the strength for your child's age and the body area, and tell you exactly how much to use and for how long.
-
Most pediatric skin treatment involves creams and routines, not procedures. When something like a wart treatment is needed, we choose the gentlest effective option and explain it to your child first.
